The 2017 North Philippines Earthquake was a powerful earthquake. The Earthquake was caused by the Southern Tagalog Fault Line on Batangas, Philippines, whose pressure was building up for more than 150 years. The shaking rocked the two islands. Luckily no tsunami was caused. It lasted for roughly 2 minutes and 12 seconds and had a moment magnitude of 8.0 Mw, resulting in an unprecedented catastrophe in its wake. Additionally, 98 aftershocks were reported following the quake, including a 6.6 Mw 58 minutes after the initial shock. The earthquake also triggered another earthquake with a moment magnitude of 5.9 Mw, which was centered at Manila.

On July 8, 2017, local seismologists began receiving reports of strange animal behaviour in the area. Birds vanished from the area, frogs leapt out of the pond during the night and worms began to swarm. By December 18, cats were going missing and dogs began to act aggressively. On December 28, a magnitude 5.3 struck the local area, and was one of the five foreshocks which were felt.

The Event[]

On August 1, 2017 at 09:32 P.M. Eastern Daylight Time, people reported their Furniture swaying and animals acting weird. At 2:34 pm Eastern Daylight Time the shaking began and in 1 minute the quake had already reached 6.0 buildings cracked collapsed already multiple people had died at a condo in Mindoro. By the time it had reached 7.9 the quake wasn’t even at 1 minute and 30 seconds the quake had already destroyed hundreds of towns were destroyed and the capital Manila was devastated. The bridges in the area went down, and the newly constructed skyscraper underwent a pancake collapse, producing a cloud of rubble.
